Natural range: throughout eastern North America
Housing
- large parrot or ferret type cage
- base of cage should be at least 1 meter by 1 meter and 2 meters high
- can be housed in same sex pairs if introduced at a young age
- Bedding: aspen or corn cob
- Accessories: ferret wheel, nest box, branches, hideaways, wood chew
Food
- feed a mixture of quality large parrot seed mix that includes nuts and dried fruit, rodent blocks and kitten kibble
- provide a mineral block
- fresh fruit or veggies weekly
- occassional mealworm or cricket, hard boiled egg
Breeding
- Maturity: 1 year old
- Gestation: 38 days
- Litter size: 3-7
- eyes open between 25-30 days old
- should be fully weaned by 7-8 weeks old
